Educational Philosophy

My philosophy toward education is that it is at once the great equalizer and the great sorter. For better or worse, student experiences in school will dictate their future potential for learning, earning, and happiness. The educator's role is to create an environment in which a student can learn, and then provide stimulating opportunities for students to actively engage in appropriate material. School should be interactive and collaborative, with students encouraging and challenging one another. The ultimate goal of education has to be the successful mastery of the assigned standards, where mastery is deep understanding, not memorization of facts and procedures. This is hard!: it's a great deal of work for students and teachers, and for the administrators who create the climate and provide the resources for that mastery.
